A-Level Art
This is a broad-based course exploring practical, critical and contextual work through a range of 2D and/or 3D processes and media. Art and design gives you the skills and knowledge to create personal and imaginative work.
You can choose to focus on a specialist area of study from a variety of exciting processes and media to suit your individual interests and abilities. This can result in degree opportunities and careers ranging from painting portraits to producing exotic fashion costumes or designing futuristic architecture. If you have an adventurous, creative and enquiring mind and are excited by shaping and determining the visual world around us, there is a career opportunity waiting for you.

Course Content
Year 1
100% Exam based; the early release paper will be issued on 1st January and will provide learners with a number of themes, each with a range of written and visual starting points, briefs and stimuli.
Year 2
60% - The Personal investigation has two integrated elements: a portfolio of practical
work and a related study, an extended response of a guided minimum of 1000 words which explores the context in which your chosen practical area of study.
40% - Exam; the early release paper will be issued on 1st February and will provide
learners with a number of themes, each with a range of written and visual starting points, briefs and stimuli.
The full A-Level is based on:
- One Personal Investigation 60%
- One Externally set task - Exam 40%
Requirements
5 GCSEs Grade 9-5, including Art.
You should have studied Art by taking Art GCSE or BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design.
