The Bursary at SHC

Students aged 16–19 who are in care, care leavers, claiming Income Support/Universal Credit in their own name, or claiming both ESA and DLA or a PIP in their own name, will be eligible for a bursary of up to £1,200 to support them during their studies. Those eligible for free school meals (from low income households and young carers) may also be able to access financial support via the College Discretionary Bursary fund.

Care to learn 

The Care to Learn programme is designed to help young parents cover the cost of childcare while they secure a qualification from college. Parents under 20 can claim £175 a day per child to cover nursery for the duration of their course.

Student Discounts

Finding the balance between studies and earning money can be tough as a student, thankfully there are a whole host of ways you can ease the pressure on your pockets below.


Student ID Card
Your student ID proves that you are a student, with it you can access a whole host of student entitlements like Amazon Student, ASOS discounts, free coffee and more. 


16-25 Rail Pass
Now you are a student you are eligible for a 16-25 Train Pass, if you regularly take the train you could be saving 1/3 of the price per ticket.


Oyster Pass
As a student you are are entitled to free travel via your Oyster Pass. 


NUS - National Union of Students
