Overview

Level 2 Business

The BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Business is a one year course which is equivalent to two GCSEs. Our delivery of the course is specifically designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of a wide range of business topics whilst also developing the skills that employers are really looking for, such as literacy, numeracy, communication skills, analysis, interpretation, application and the evaluation of information.

All learning is based around real-life business examples. This means that you will fully participate in your own educational experience and will gain experience of planning to start a small business, business finance, planning a marketing campaign, customer service situations and designing and creating a business website. You will also engage with a range of employers. Recently our students have visited the London offices of multinational business organisations such as Merkel International, Northern Trust, MUFG Bank of Japan, Clifford Chance and Deutsche Bank. Through these visits students have taken the opportunity to sign-up for master classes in job applications and interviews, internships and work experience placements. As a key part of the course, you will be expected to engage in at least one work experience placement.

Throughout the course you will be supported by a dedicated tutor and will receive regular progress reviews, along with full and regular feedback from the course team. Feedback will be verbal, written and electronic, with each being specifically designed to support your development and progress.

Having achieved the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Business qualification, the majority of our students have progressed to study our BTEC Level 3 Business courses. Progression to a related apprenticeship or full-time employment is also possible.

Course Content

The units we plan to deliver in the 2019/20 academic year are shown below. However, if students show ambition to follow a particular career path, for example finance and accounting, we will look to deliver a selection of units more specifically tailored to that career path.

  • Unit 1: Enterprise in the Business World
  • Unit 2: Finance for Business
  • Unit 3: Promoting a Brand
  • Unit 4: Customer Service
  • Unit 8: Recruitment, Selection and Employment
  • Unit 9: Principles of Marketing
  • Unit 14: Business Online

The course is assessed using a combination of coursework and examinations. Units 2 and 9 are externally set examinations. All other units are assessed via coursework assignments that include practical activities.

  • The BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Business study programme also allows students the opportunity to retake their GCSEs in English and Maths in order to achieve a minimum of a grade 4 (essential for progression to higher levels of study and the workplace).

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for the BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Business are four GCSEs at Grade 3 or above. BTEC grades are also considered within this calculation.
